Anibok Studios Partners With Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival To Screen KING OF TƐMA At Imagine Cinemas June 12 and 13

Anibok Studios and Organized Khaos have partnered with the Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival (TPAFF) to bring KING OF TƐMA to Imagine Cinemas in Toronto on June 12 and 13, with the festival set to host an after-party following the June 13 screening. Details on the after party are forthcoming.

KING OF TƐMA is the first feature film ever produced in Tema, Ghana, a port city of over 300,000 people that stands as one of West Africa's most historically significant urban centres. The film follows a powerful local figure whose kingdom is built on loyalty, tradition, and the politics of survival. Directed and produced by Kobina de Graft-Johnson of Anibok Studios in association with Organized Khaos, the film runs 2 hours and 8 minutes. The official trailer is available at youtu.be/gqOj0TclMPw.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to amplifying African storytelling and creating meaningful spaces for the diaspora to engage with cinema from the continent. TPAFF, now in its fourth season, is a free community festival held during the month of Emancipation that showcases films by local Black filmmakers alongside a curated selection of work from international filmmakers of the diaspora. Set against the backdrop of Little Jamaica, Toronto's first Cultural District, the festival has become one of the city's most anticipated community events.

The Toronto screenings are the fourth stop of the North American Screening Tour. The tour opened in New York City, where more than 400 people attempted to attend a 120-seat premiere, before continuing to Jersey City and Rockville, Maryland, in May. After Toronto, the tour heads to Washington D.C., Worcester, Boston, and Atlanta, completing seven events across two countries.

“It is exciting to be recognized for the hard work that myself and the team put in,” said de Graft-Johnson. “We worked incredibly hard on this film, and it means everything to have partners like Toronto Pan-Afrikan Film Festival who see the work we are doing and step up to support it. I am excited for Toronto to see KING OF TƐMA. Toronto has one of the most incredible Ghanaian diaspora communities in the world, and this film was made for exactly these moments.”

Lori Beazer, Founder and Executive Festival Director of TPAFF, added: “Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival is proud to support film from the diaspora and looks forward to hosting filmmaker Kobina de Graft-Johnson. Toronto won't be the same... Chale.”

KING OF TƐMA screens at Imagine Cinemas in Toronto on Friday, June 12 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, June 13 at 4:00 PM, each followed by a Q&A with de Graft-Johnson. Tickets are available at king-show-wocdw8mk.manus.space.

Following three sold-out and packed stops across the United States, KING OF TƐMA arrives in Toronto with the full weight of its North American momentum. For Toronto's Ghanaian diaspora community, the June 12 and 13 screenings at Imagine Cinemas are not simply an opportunity to see a film. They are a chance to be part of a movement.
